Emergency telephone services were restored Monday afternoon after a more than 24-hour-long outage that affected some Skamania County residents.
CenturyLink, the phone carrier for Skamania County dispatchers, experienced a large-scale outage that began Sunday morning and lasted through Monday afternoon, according to the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office.
The outage stemmed from problems with the company’s network and routine equipment resulting in intermittent service interruptions and outright failures of the 911 network, the sheriff’s office said.
During the outage, Skamania County residents who did get through when calling 911 had their calls routed to Clark County dispatchers, who took the information and forwarded it to the appropriate Skamania County emergency responders.
The outage also affected Hood River County in Oregon and Klickitat County, Skamania County Undersheriff Pat Bond said.
