It seems that many people don’t understand the greenhouse effect. Visible sunlight passes through air and is reradiated back into space as infrared. Infrared is absorbed by CO2 and by water vapor helping to keep the planet warmer than it would be otherwise.
The Scripps Institute of Oceanography has conducted continuous direct measurements of atmospheric CO2 since 1958. Atmospheric CO2 has been steadily increasing because of the burning of fossil fuels and deforestation. Google Keeling Curve and see for yourself.
Climate change means more frequent extreme weather events. Portland, Seattle and Bellingham broke temperature records in April. Warming means the air can hold more water vapor, which leads to more warming.
The largest coal terminal in America is proposed in Longview. It would generate 12 miles of loaded coal trains through Vancouver every day. We won’t be able to stop irreversible global warming if we build more fossil-fuel infrastructure.
