It took extra work, but the top two boys soccer teams in the Class 4A Greater St. Helens League during the regular season are the teams that will play on Tuesday for the District 4 title.

Camas and Union both won in the district semifinals on Monday at McKenzie Stadium to set up a 7 p.m. match on Tuesday for the title. Tuesday’s winner will host a bi-district playoff match on Saturday. The loser will travel for a Saturday match.

The Papermakers win came on penalty kicks after they played a scoreless 90 minutes against Heritage.

The Titans advanced with a goal in the second overtime to beat Evergreen 2-1.

Camas and Union tied for the regular-season 4A GSHL title. Camas beat Union 2-0 on April 15 and the teams played to a 2-2 draw last week.

Camas 1, Heritage 0 (PKs) — Camas won the penalty-kick shootout 3-2 over Heritage. Danny Wing, Toby Pizot and Dominic Fewel converted for the Papermakers. As the No. 1 seed, Camas would have played for the district title on Wednesday if Heritage had prevailed.

Camas coach Roland Minder credited Heritage with a strong effort.

“They really have improved over the year and really gave us a challenge,” Minder said.

Union 2, Evergreen 1 — Masaki Rhodes scored with about two minutes left in overtime to put the Titans into the district final. Rhodes collected a cross from Jake Gould and found space to slot home the game winner.

The match was tied 1-1, on first-half goals from Union’s Jackson Voeller and Evergreen’s John Spiering.
