Five people were injured Wednesday morning in a head-on crash on East Mill Plain Boulevard in Vancouver.

A vehicle traveling west on East Mill Plain Boulevard turned left onto North Devine Road when it collided with an eastbound vehicle at about 9:40 a.m., Vancouver Police Department spokeswoman Kim Kapp said.

One of the vehicles, a sport-utility vehicle, continued on and crashed into an unoccupied bus stop, Kapp said.

A mother and two children in one vehicle along with two adults in the other vehicle were all taken to area hospitals, Kapp said. Their conditions were not available, but Kapp said that none of the injuries were life-threatening.

Vancouver Fire Department spokesman Kevin Stromberg said that the site of the crash is right outside of Vancouver Fire Station 3, and that firefighters inside heard the collision.

“They said it was quite the impact,” Stromberg said. “They went out to see what happened and said a bystander had pulled three unconscious patients out of the two vehicles.”

Kapp said that there was no indication of impairment in the crash, though investigators are waiting for toxicology reports to confirm that. She said that no citations have been issued, but that the investigation into the crash is ongoing.

Stromberg said that the bus stop at that intersection is normally busy and that it’s fortunate no pedestrians were injured.

The westbound lanes of Mill Plain Boulevard were closed for several hours while traffic detectives investigated. C-Tran buses were rerouted during the investigation.
