Cowlitz County authorities chased a stolen Honda Accord from Kelso to the Salmon Creek area around midnight Wednesday.

The Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office said Kelso police were in pursuit of a stolen vehicle Wednesday night in Kelso, with deputies continuing the chase when the suspect turned south onto Interstate 5.

Kalama police assisted in the chase, as well, and one of the department’s patrol cars crashed during the chase, the sheriff’s office said. The Kalama police said the officer walked away with minor injuries. KATU-TV reported the vehicle was a beige, older model Honda Accord.

The driver of the Honda later lost control and struck a tree in Vancouver near the 13700 block of Northeast 50th Avenue. The suspect fled on foot and was not located, the sheriff’s office said.

The Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office encouraged anyone who might know who the driver is to call the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office at 360-577-3092, and leave a message for Sgt. Joe Reiss.
