Letter: Move forward the best candidate

Not a white man. Not a black woman. Not an Asian person. Which one of these is not offensive?

Clark County Councilors David Madore and Tom Mielke decided to completely ignore Clark County rules and appoint Sen. Don Benton as director of Environmental Services. Even as public support soured around them, their belief that they did nothing wrong has not wavered, and they are willing to throw Clark County under the bus once again.

The Feb. 25 story “Boldt, Madore clash over county manager” reported: “But at the council’s board time on Wednesday, Madore called for the county to run a national search to find potential candidates for McCauley’s position so as not to set a pattern of appointing white men to top spots.”

I have to ask Native American, black, Hispanic, white, green or purple (besides Madore) — who cares what the skin color the best candidate has?

As far as I am concerned, Madore’s words only show he is trying to hide his bigotry by trying to be “diverse.” All people should be considered for the job, and Clark County deserves the best person available regardless of their sex or skin color.
