Dante Cunningham, who plays for the NBA’s New Orleans Pelicans, was in Clark County District Court on Friday morning after being cited on suspicion of DUI.
Cunningham, who played for the Portland Trail Blazers from 2009-11, was stopped by Washington State Patrol Trooper Timothy Cunningham at 1:20 a.m. June 17 on State Route 500 near 112th Avenue.
According to a report filed in Clark County District Court, Cunningham was clocked going 67 miles per hour in a 40 mph zone. Cunningham had bloodshot, watery eyes and smelled of alcohol, according to an officer’s report.
Cunningham, 29, failed a field sobriety test and his blood-alcohol content was initially measured at .094, over Washington’s legal limit of .08.
He appeared Friday before Clark County District Court Judge James Swanger with attorney R. Grant Cook of Salem, Ore. His attorney entered a not guilty plea on his behalf, according to court documents.
Cunningham is scheduled to appear in court Aug. 16.
Cunningham played 80 games, starting in 46, for New Orleans this past season. The 6-foot-8 forward averaged 6.1 points and 3.0 rebounds per game.
The Blazers drafted Cunningham out of Villanova in 2009. He played 119 games for the Blazers before being traded to Charlotte as part of a deal that brought Gerald Wallace to Portland.
Cunningham was arrested in 2014 for alleged domestic abuse and making “terroristic threats,” though both charges were later dropped.
