Letter: Kudos to Herrera Beutler

By Nancy Curtiss, Olympia
Published: July 25, 2016, 6:00am

Throughout Washington, appreciation is extended to Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler for joining the entire Washington delegation of senators and representatives in a bipartisan effort to continue to support the Global Fund replenishment.

The Global Fund to fight AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria has made huge inroads against these “big three” diseases since its inception in 2002. Our failure to keep concentrating on global diseases has let new diseases, such as the Zika virus, become harder and more costly to eradicate.

I’m sure your readers will join me in applauding her joining her voice to this powerful appeal to President Obama from all our state’s members of Congress. This is a significant step to ensure that the U.S. does its part to help countries treat and prevent these diseases.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
