Vancouver Public Schools received a hefty check from the Clark County Department of Environmental Services on Tuesday for its support of environmental education.

The school district received $90,000 in refunds for its stormwater fees from 2014 and 2015, Environmental Services spokesman Andrew Loescher said. The school qualified for the refund by participating in the Washington Green Schools program, performing environmental education in the classroom and training their staff on stormwater maintenance.

The Department of Environmental Services increased the restrictions on what qualified schools for refunds about two years ago, Loescher said. This is the first time a school has qualified for a refund under the new program, he added.
