A man who police say was driving under the influence rolled his van on the Interstate 5 Bridge on Monday afternoon, sending him to the hospital with minor injuries and snarling southbound traffic on the interstate for several hours.

Vladimir Gruntkovskiy, 32, of Vancouver was heading south on the highway around 4:30 p.m. when his van struck a barrier and rolled, Portland Police Bureau Sgt. Pete Simpson said.

The crash and response initially blocked two lanes on the bridge. The Washington State Department of Transportation said the wreckage was cleared after about two hours, but slowdowns heading south continued into the early evening.

Simpson said Gruntkovskiy was taken to a hospital and treated. Upon his release from the hospital, Simpson said he was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
