State Department no longer issuing extra pages for passports

Frequent travelers, take a look at your passport. If all the pages are stamped or have visas on them before your passport expires, you’ll have to get a new one.

The U.S. State Department is no longer offering extra pages for the document. Citing security concerns, the agency stopped issuing the extra pages on Dec. 31.

Instead, it will let future passport applicants order a passport with either 28 pages or 52 pages. All applications received outside the U.S. will automatically get 52-page passports.

The pages are used for country immigration officers’ entry and exit stamps, as well as a place to insert visas for countries that require them. While most travelers never fill their passports, it’s an issue for frequent travelers because some countries require at least two blank pages in a passport for entry.

To apply for a new or renewal passport or to get other passport information visit www.travel.state.gov/passport or call 877-487-2778.
