Grace Prom scored 13 points and Natalie Whitesel added 12 as Prairie rode its defense to a 3A Greater St. Helens League win.

Having already clinched the league title, Prairie (16-3, 5-0) played without senior star Cherita Daugherty. Coach Brett Johnson said he gave her the night off so she could be fresh for the postseason.

But Prairie has plenty of depth and that showed on defense. Leading 24-18 at halftime, the Falcons outscored the visiting Hilanders 22-7 in the third quarter.

“They stepped it up when we went to our diamond press,” Johnson said. “They all came together without (Daugherty) out there.”
