DALLAS, Ore. — Authorities Saturday identified a man police say shot a police officer in the leg before being shot and killed by police.

At about 5:30 p.m. Friday, three Dallas police officers attempted to arrest Jeremiah N. Anderson, 36, in a Wal-Mart parking lot on suspicion of driving under the influence of intoxicants, Oregon State Police said in a statement.

Police said Anderson resisted and fired at least two rounds, striking Sgt. Rob Hatchell in the leg.

Hatchell and Officer Mike Fleming returned fire and struck Anderson, who died at the scene, police said.

Fleming and Officer Aaron Mollahan, who was also present, were not injured.

Authorities said Hatchell was treated at a hospital and released.

All three officers have been placed on paid administrative leave.
