I am outraged by the numerous hateful responses of the public towards the Humane Society and the people who rescued and adopted the black lab “Hunter” recently when he escaped from his yard while being cared for by the owner’s friend (“B.G. firefighter to get dog back from adoptive family,” Aug. 22).
First of all, William Jones was negligent in his care for Hunter by not having at least an identity collar on Hunter and/or not having him microchipped.
Secondly, the friend he left Hunter with apparently made no effort to find the dog by contacting the Humane Society or placing an ad in the paper.
I think Jones should show his gratitude with more than just a “thanks” and reimburse the adoptive owners who took Hunter in, who not only provided basic care but also showed more responsibility by installing an electric fence to ensure his safety. I am heartbroken for them as I’m sure they adopted him in good faith to be a permanent member of their family. Jones should also make a generous donation to the Humane Society for the money they spent on chipping Hunter as well as for room and board.
