BATTLE GROUND — The state Department of Health has restricted the license of a Battle Ground dentist after accusations that he offered substandard care when placing dental implants.

The department’s dental commission summarily restricted the dentist license and conscious sedation permit of Sanjeev Kumar Sharma on Wednesday. Sharma has 20 days to respond to the charges and request a hearing.

Under the restriction, Sharma is prohibited from performing surgical implant procedures, pending additional disciplinary proceedings. Sharma is not restricted from providing other types of dental care.

The charges accuse Sharma of placing dental implants that were too large and inappropriately located. Sharma allegedly placed one implant so poorly that another dentist was able to remove the implant with tweezers, according to the health department.

Sharma was first issued a dentist’s license in Washington in October 1998.
