Investigators from the Clark County Fire Marshal’s Office and an insurance company were unable to determine what started the fire that destroyed three homes at Kadow’s Marina on Lower River Road on Sept. 20, Clark County Deputy Fire Marshal Susan Anderson said Thursday.

The Sunday night fire, called in around 10:30 p.m., destroyed three homes at the marina and burned through parts of the dock.

No one was injured in the blaze, but the complicated circumstances of the fire — the water, power lines hanging overhead and the severity of the blaze — made for a difficult night of firefighting.

Anderson said in an email that her office’s investigation classified the cause as undetermined, but found no evidence of arson.

She also said the investigation couldn’t rule out careless smoking or an electrical fault sparking the fire.

Private investigators with insurance companies said the damage where the fire originated was too extensive to determine what ignited the fire, she said.

The total cost for the damage was estimated at about $470,000 for the structures and $350,000 for their contents.
