Go, Ideas for your weekend: Vancouver Symphony, Roller Derby

1. Collaborative sounds

The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra will offer two collaborations this weekend. It will join the Oregon Repertory Singers to help open the ensemble’s 42nd season, performing a classic piece of choral music, Antonin Dvor?k’s “Stabat Mater,” which helped launch the composer’s career. The Vancouver Symphony also kicks off its fifth Chamber Series with a piano extravaganza. Five Vancouver pianists, Cinda Redman, Lena Vozheiko-Wheaton, Kathy Edsill-Charles, Kathryn Hobbie and Michael C. Liu, will perform in two groups and all at once. 2. 20 Years of Dance

To celebrate the 20th year of Vancouver School of Arts and Academics, its dance program presents a performance of its current and alumni dancers. Many have gone on to teach, dance and choreograph professionally. Alumni include Eowyn Emerald Barrett, Brent Luebbert and Laura Aschoff. 3. Art in Hazel Dell

The Society of Washington Artists will celebrate its 53rd year with a professionally judged Fall Art Show and Sale. Visitors can see a variety of styles and diverse subject matter, including landscapes, wildlife, portrait and abstract art, created in a wide variety of media. The show judge is Joanne Kollman, a Northwest painter whose work ranges from commercial illustration to etchings and oil paintings. Meet the artists during the show reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 17, with awards presented at 7 p.m. Food and beverages will be served, with live music. Public viewing is open 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 16 and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 17 at the H.H. Hall Building, 10000 N.E. Seventh Ave., Vancouver. 4. Retro video games

The 10th annual Portland Retro Gaming Expo creates Oregon’s largest arcade for a weekend, with pinball and arcade machines all set to freeplay, plus a variety of console games open to all. The expo also includes speakers and panels, with guests including video game designers, video game players and collectors. There also will be game tournaments, costumes contests and a live auction. The Retro Gaming Expo is open 10 a.m. to midnight Oct. 17 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 18 at the Oregon Convention Center, 777 N.E. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Portland. 5. Spooky roller derby

The Storm City Roller Girls season comes to a close with a Rocky Horror Roller Derby bout. The two home teams, Shock Treatment and Misfits of Mutiny, will compete for the win on a flat course roller derby track. The group also will collect gently used bras and new socks and underwear to donate to a YWCA domestic violence shelter and Second Step Housing. The bout begins at 6 p.m. Oct. 17 at the Clark County Event Center at the Fairgrounds, 17402 N.E. Delfel Road, Ridgefield.
