A small airplane hit a fence and flipped after making an emergency landing near an airfield north of Battle Ground before noon Wednesday. No one was hurt.

Clark County Fire & Rescue spokesman Tim Dawdy said the plane lost power shortly after taking off.

The pilot brought the plane down in a nearby field, near Northeast 112th Avenue and Northeast 299th Street, around 11:50 a.m.

“Much to his credit, he was successful in his emergency landing,” Dawdy said.

But as the plane was rolling through the field, it hit a fence then flipped onto its top, Dawdy said

Emergency personnel were called to 29006 N.E. 112th Ave. Both the pilot and passenger — two adult males — walked away unscathed, Dawdy said, and the crash didn’t spark a fire.

Dawdy said the crash shows the value of seat belts, in airplanes or in cars.

“Now, the problem is, how are they going to get the plane out of that darn field?” he said.
