Letter: Heed warning of firefighters

By Ray Ballesteros, Ridgefield
Published: November 6, 2015, 6:00am

In the Nov. 1 opinion piece “Local view: Vancouver firefighters oppose oil terminal plan,” writer Mark Johnston, president of the Vancouver Fire Fighters Union, candidly expressed the union’s justifiable opposition to the oil terminal.

Johnston’s warnings and realistic appraisal must not be ignored. He speaks truthfully, and facts are facts. Our first responders are neither politicians nor public bureaucrats. Public safety now and in the future trumps this economic gain, without a doubt.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
