Prep roundup: Prairie locks in spot to 3A state soccer playoffs

Prairie booked a spot in the 3A state girls soccer tournament as well as the bi-district final with a penalty-kick win over Central Kitsap on Thursday at Tacoma.

The matched was tied 2-2 going into PKs. No details were reported.

Prairie will face Sumner in the bi-district final at 2 p.m. Saturday at Sunset Chev Stadium.

Columbia River can also claim a state berth on Saturday if the Chieftains can get past Enumclaw.

The Chieftains advanced Thursday as Ellie Walker scored three goals and had two assists in Columbia River’s shutout of North Thurston, 5-0, at Lincoln Bowl in Tacoma.

Sophie Skimas and Sarah Kleier scored on Walker’s assists.

2A volleyball

The Hockinson Hawks rallied from a 2-0 deficit to win their quarterfinal match in the Class 2A District 4 volleyball tournament.

Elle Tilkin had 15 kills, Abbie Kondel had 13 kills, and Mallory Hylton had 33 assists, leading the Hawks to a 3-2 win over Black Hills. Scores were: 19-25, 18-25, 25-23, 25-16, 15-10.

Hockinson will face league rival Ridgefield in one semifinal Saturday.

Ridgefield had little trouble getting past W.F. West, sweeping the match 25-17, 25-13, 25-20.

Sarena Bartley had 11 kills and five blocks to lead the Ridgefield attack.

The 2A GSHL got three teams into the semifinals. Woodland swept Centralia 25-10, 25-15, 25-18. Haley Yoder had 13 kills for the Beavers. Elle Nesbitt had 29 assists.

2A soccer

Mabel Warndahl scored off a feed from Kristianna Troyer with about 20 seconds left in the match, keeping Woodland’s soccer season alive.

The Beavers topped Tumwater 3-2 in an elimination match in the Class 2A district girls soccer tournament. Woodland will face Black Hills on Saturday in a winner-to-state match.

Judith Nunez and Warndahl scored earlier for the Beavers, giving Woodland a 2-0 lead. Tumwater responded, tying the match in the second half, setting up the late-match dramatics for Woodland’s victory.
