Six people escaped serious injury Saturday in a near head-on crash in east Vancouver, police reported.

The crash was reported at 7:57 p.m. near the intersection of Northeast 192nd Avenue and Third Street.

Vancouver police Sgt. Patrick Kennedy said an SUV crossed the centerline of the street and collided with a four-door sedan. The sedan caught fire.

The two occupants of the sedan were said to be critically hurt and transported to a local hospital, but Kennedy said their injuries proved to be minor. The four occupants of the SUV were also transported to hospitals as a precaution.

The crash remains under investigation.
