OLYMPIA — No Discover Pass will be needed at Washington state parks on Thursday to celebrate the 102 birthday of the system.

Thursday is the third of 12 “free days” in 2015.

Other free days will be April 4 and 22, May 10, June 6 and 13, Aug. 25, Sept. 26 and Nov. 11.

“Once people realize just what they have in Washington state parks, we hope they consider buying a Discover Pass,” said Pat Lantz of Gig Harbor, chair of the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission.

The State Legislature and governor created the Discover Pass in 2011 to offset steep reductions in general tax support for parks and other recreation lands and facilities operated by Washington State Parks, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife and the Washington Department of Natural Resources.

A one-day pass costs $10. A seasonal pass, good for a year from the date of purchase, costs $30.
