The Clark County Fairgrounds recently hosted the 4th Annual Washington State Horse Expo. This is the first of a two-part video series looking at some of the unique events featured at the show, including Jessica Wisdom and dressage which are shown here. Tomorrow we take a look at horseback archery.

Growing up, Jessica Wisdom was told she would never have the discipline to compete in dressage. A young, confident horse enthusiast and barrel racer, Wisdom did not realize the extreme discipline dressage required.

“I was a little bit the wild child, can’t hold me down. And it doesn’t work that way with horses,” Wisdom said.

Wisdom defines dressage as the basic training of the horse for any discipline. It is perfection and harmony in the partnership between horse and rider. It is an intricate dance.

Through hard work and determination, Wisdom rose to the top and became the Open Grand Prix Freestyle Champion in 2014, an elite national dressage title.

In addition to competing, Wisdom coaches the BlackPearl Friesian Dance Troupe in Clark County. She helps refine the BlackPearl riders’ dressage skills in a number of eclectic horse and rider dance routines.
