TULALIP — The Snohomish County Fire Marshal’s office says a fatal brush fire on the Tulalip Indian Reservation spread from outdoor vegetation burning.
Investigators determined that 86-year-old David Hagaman fell down a steep embankment while fighting the brush fire with a garden hose.
The Daily Herald of Everett reports that Hagaman had been burning vegetation either earlier that day or the previous night. The marshal’s office says wind fanned the hot ashes into a brush fire.
He died from burns and smoke inhalation. His death was ruled an accident.
