SPOKANE — Authorities say they found a body inside a burning van parked outside a Walmart store in Spokane.
Officer Teresa Fuller, a spokeswoman for the Spokane Police Department, says firefighters responded at about 12:30 a.m. Monday to a report of vehicle completely engulfed in flames, and police took over the investigation after the body was discovered.
Police haven’t said if the victim was male or female, and it’s not clear how long the van had been parked at the store, which is in the Shadle Center shopping area. Investigators are checking whether surveillance video captured the fire, and they’re asking for any witnesses to come forward.
KHQ-TV reported that the van had exploded, blasting glass at least 20 feet away, and that bomb squad investigators were on scene.
