The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office says it arrested a 34-year-old woman for boating while intoxicated after the propeller of the pontoon boat she was steering struck a swimmer’s leg.

KGW-TV reported that the incident occurred after the pontoon boat crashed at about 5:30 p.m. Saturday near the Fremont Bridge over the Willamette River. Investigators say some of the passengers were swimming in the river when the boat was put into gear and the propeller struck a woman in the calf.

The woman was aboard the boat when medics arrived. They stabilized the woman and rode the boat back to shore, then brought the woman to a hospital.

Investigators said the driver of the boat, Haley Ronningen, 34, of Portland, was arrested for investigation of boating under the influence.
