I am amazed that Clark County Councilor David Madore is so proud of “defeating light rail” that he includes it as a selling point on the leaflet that appeared in my mailbox. Public transportation is not an enemy to be fought — it is something that is necessary for a functioning 21st century community. Does Madore not understand the negative economic impact of the region’s failing infrastructure? Does he not understand the business benefits of taking pressure off our hopelessly clogged roads?
Having lived in some of the world’s biggest cities, I can vouch for the upside of mass transit. What the county needs is leadership from someone open-minded enough to solve problems. What it doesn’t need is an ideologue peddling ignorance.
