KENNEWICK — Authorities in Benton County are trying to identify a man found dead in the Columbia River east of the cable bridge.

The Tri-City Herald reports that an autopsy was planned for Monday.

The body was discovered on Sunday morning by a fisherman.

The man is believed to be a transient in his 40s. Authorities were working to confirm his identity and notify next of kin.

Officials initially said the man may have drowned, but Benton County Coroner John Hansens told the Herald on Sunday that he wasn’t yet sure if that was the case.

Hansens says there were no signs of foul play.
