A woman’s body was found Thursday along the Lewis River in Woodland.

Someone called 911 at about 12:45 p.m. after spotting the body on the embankment about 200 yards upstream from the East CC Street Bridge, Clark County Fire & Rescue spokesman Tim Dawdy said.

Firefighters and law enforcement responded to the area of 1141 Lewis River Road, where they found the body. Crews reached the scene by using jet boats, Dawdy said.

The woman has been tentatively identified, but Clark County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Fred Neiman said the woman’s name would not be released because she had not been positively identified, nor had her entire family been notified.

Though the woman’s body was found in Cowlitz County, Neiman said that Clark County major crimes detectives are investigating because of an earlier investigation involving a missing female. The Cowlitz County Coroner’s Office has taken the woman’s remains.
