4A Regional Wrestling: Mountain View, Evergreen each win two titles

Mountain View and Evergreen each had two individual champions at the Class 4A Region 3 Wrestling Tournament Saturday in Kent.

For Mountain View, Brandon Huft won the 113-pound title, defeating Kentwood’s Andy Sandu 5-0. At 132 pounds, Damon Thomas beat Malik Messiah of Todd Beamer 6-5.

Thunder teammates Will Taisacan, Skylar Scott and Grayson Funk also qualified for Mat Classic, which begins Friday in Tacoma.The top four in each weight class qualified.

Evergreen’s big guys also took home a pair of titles. Dallas Goodpaster won the 220-pound championship by pinning Kentwood’s Kyle Capperlaud in 2 minutes, 45 seconds. Austin Wright won at 285 pounds, beating Kentwood’s Austin Duncan 7-4.

Evergreen also had Andrew Loreno and Isaiah Av qualify for Mat Classic.

Bryant Elliot of Camas won the 138-pound title, beating Sean Van Earwage of Todd Beamer, 9-7.

Union qualified a meet-high seven wrestlers for Mat Classic and finished second in the team competition to Tahoma.
