Portland handles San Francisco in 69-57 win

SAN FRANCISCO — Alec Wintering and Kevin Bailey scored 20 points apiece to lead Portland to a 69-57 win over San Francisco on Thursday night.

Wintering sank the go-ahead 3-pointer early in the second half, finishing 3 of 6 from beyond the arc, and 9 of 10 from the line. Thomas van der Mars contributed seven points and hauled in 13 rebounds for Portland (13-10, 4-7 West Coast Conference), which held a 20-9 edge in made free throws and controlled the boards 39-28.

San Francisco (9-15, 3-9) closed out the first half with a 7-0 run ignited by a 3-pointer from Kruize Pinkins to take its first lead of the game and carried a 36-33 advantage into the break. Portland responded with an 11-0 burst to open the second half and never trailed again.

Tim Derksen led the Dons with 17 points and Mark Tollefsen added 10.
