A 16-year-old boy was arrested after, police say, he crashed a vehicle into an apartment complex in Vancouver’s Mountain View neighborhood Thursday night.

Vancouver police responded to the Quail Run Apartments, 701 S.E. 139th Ave., for a reported crash at about 9:15 p.m., Sgt. Mark Blaisdell said.

Arriving officers learned that a Chevrolet Blazer left the roadway in the 13900 block of Southeast Sixth Street, drove over a sidewalk and ran into the east side of the apartment building, Blaisdell said. The driver, however, had fled, Blaisdell said.

The crash caused a balcony of the complex to fall onto the vehicle, Vancouver Fire Department spokesman Joe Spatz said. No one was injured, he added.

Officers went to the residence of the vehicle’s registered owner and spoke with a woman who said her boyfriend’s son had taken the car without her permission, Blaisdell said.

The woman sent investigators to a residence where they could find him and arrested the teen later that evening on suspicion of being a minor in possession of alcohol, hit-and-run, making false or misleading statements and driving without a license.

He was booked into the Clark County Juvenile Detention Center.
