A 21-year-old man who called 911 early Tuesday to report having killed his grandfather was taken into custody by sheriff’s deputies.

Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Scott Wilson said the young man surrendered around 2 a.m., just moments after deputies arrived at a home in the Rocky Point neighborhood, just outside of Bremerton.

When deputies entered the home in the 2000 block of Northwest Shamrock Drive, they found a deceased elderly man whose death appeared to have involved violence, Wilson said in a statement released Tuesday.

Wilson said the suspect called 911 and said he had been drinking and had killed his grandfather.

Wilson said the 21-year-old was taken to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Detectives will obtain a search warrant to enter the home to begin processing the scene for evidence, he said.

Wilson said further information will be released later.
