EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — The Lowell School District superintendent is working to establish a task force that will help determine whether district teachers will be allowed to carry guns on campus.
The Register-Guard reports that Superintendent Walt Hanline is gathering a panel of up to eight experts to help the Lowell School Board decide on the issue in January.
Hanline, who opposes teachers having guns in the classroom, says the task force will be comprised of experts on both sides of the issue. The panel is expected to present their views at a Jan. 25 meeting.
The meeting will be designed so that the board can gain a better understanding of the issue. But Hanline also wants members of the Lowell community to have input on the decision.
