PORTLAND — The state has reopened the southern Oregon coast to recreational and commercial mussel harvesting.

The Oregon Department of Agriculture said Monday that shellfish samples taken from the area between the California state line and Cape Arago, south of Coos Bay, show levels of a naturally occurring marine toxin have dropped below the alert level.

Officials closed the area to mussel harvesting a little more than three weeks ago.
