PENDLETON, Ore. — A former substitute teacher in Eastern Oregon accused of having sex with a 17-year-old student has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The East Oregonian newspaper reports Timothy Walter Frey entered the plea in court on Friday. The 26-year-old Frey was arrested last week and faces eight counts of second-degree sexual abuse.

A charging document states Frey had sex with the girl several times in March and April. There is no indication the allegations happened at Pendleton High School, where he taught for about four months.

A document in the case file at the Umatilla County Courthouse described Frey as a teacher until March 13, when he took a full time job with the Oregon National Guard.

Frey is out on a $150,000 bond.
