A man was injured and taken to the hospital Wednesday after he lost control of his car and struck a tractor-trailer near Milepost 13 on state Highway 14 in Camas, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Nineteen-year-old Benjamin S. McDonald of Washougal was driving a black 2008 Mazda sedan east in the highway’s right lane when he attempted to pass a tractor-trailer at about 1:50 p.m. As he passed the big rig in the left lane, he lost control of the car, which hit the highway’s guardrail and ricocheted back into the right lane, striking the tractor-trailer, according a State Patrol press memo.

McDonald was transported to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center, where he was treated for his injuries and released.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, Phillip J. Koski, 65, of Longview, was not injured. He was driving a gray 2006 Freightliner tractor that was towing two trailers.

Both men were wearing seat belts, and neither was under the influence of drugs or alcohol, according to the news release.

McDonald was cited for speeding, according to the State Patrol.
