An oversized load will make a short trip in Clark County tonight before crossing the Glenn Jackson Bridge and making its way through Oregon this week, according to the Oregon Department of Transportation.

The load — two gates for a California hydroelectric dam — originated from the Columbia Business Center in Vancouver. It will make its way to Interstate 205, then cross the Columbia River into Oregon and continue south to Interstate 5 after 10 p.m.

The truck and trailer carrying it is 137 feet long, nearly 23 feet wide and 14 feet, 6 inches tall, according to ODOT. The load will take up two freeway lanes and will be accompanied by two pilot vehicles in front and three in back with signs and lights alerting other drivers, according to the agency.

The load is only allowed to travel in Oregon between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. It’s expected to take two nights to travel through the state, crossing into California some time before 5 a.m. Thursday, according to ODOT.

The gates are bound for the Folsom Dam on the American River northeast of Sacramento, Calif. As many as 10 more loads could make the trip later this year, but no dates have been scheduled, according to ODOT.
