Jane Van Dyke said this week she will run for the District 3 position on the Clark Public Utilities Board of Commissioners.

She previously held the position for 18 years, from 1984 to 2002.

“You don’t get to choose your utility,” Van Dyke said in a news release. “So it’s incumbent on the commissioners to provide the vision for the organization. The utility should be extra responsive as a publicly owned utility, reflecting the fact that our customers are our owners.”

Van Dyke said she’s active in many local organizations, including the Clark County League of Women Voters, Vancouver Lake Watershed Partnership, Columbia Land Trust and ECOF-Headstart.

If elected, Van Dyke said, she will focus on effective, efficient management, providing reliable service at stable rates, offering energy efficiency and conservation programs, and ensuring the utility remains a leader in environmental stewardship.

Utility Commissioner Byron Hanke, the District 3 incumbent, announced in January his candidacy for a third, six-year term on the utility’s board.
