A Vancouver woman died Sunday afternoon in a crash that’s being investigated as a possible vehicular homicide, according to the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash happened around 1 p.m. Sunday.

Shauna Medlin, 42, was a passenger in a 2007 Dodge pickup driven by James Benton, 66, of Washougal. According to the sheriff’s office, the pickup left Washougal River Road and rolled over just east of North Fork Road in western Skamania County, a rural area near a Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife fish hatchery.

Emergency responders pronounced Medlin dead at the scene. Benton was arrested and booked into the Skamania County Jail on suspicion of vehicular homicide.

“This collision is under further investigation,” Skamania Undersheriff Dave Cox said. “Preliminary investigation shows that speed was a contributing factor. Our condolences go out to the Medlin family for this tragic event.”

The Skamania County Sheriff’s Office and the Washington State Patrol are investigating.
