A Vancouver man who admitted to recklessly causing the deaths of Raisa Mosh, 45, and her friend, Irina Gardinant, 28, in a hit-and-run collision Jan. 19 will have to serve 18 months of community supervision instead of 12 months after he is released from prison.
Brandon C. Smith, 28, was sentenced in Clark County Superior Court Dec. 12 to 8½ years in prison — the maximum allowed by the law — for striking and killing the women. The sentence also included 12 months of community supervision, more than $10,000 in restitution and revocation of Smith’s driver’s license for two years after his release from prison.
At a hearing Wednesday, Senior Deputy Prosecutor Kasey Vu and Smith’s attorney, Jon McMullen, said that the court paperwork had contained a scrivener’s error regarding how many months of community supervision Smith would be required to serve. The plea agreement had called for 18 months, but the error stated Smith was to receive 12 months, Vu said.
Judge David Gregerson then corrected the judgement and sentence.
The two women and Mosh’s son, Mark, then 12, were returning from a baby shower at 8 p.m. Jan. 19.
