A possibly intoxicated woman drove her car up onto the side of a parked vehicle before crashing into a Shumway house Wednesday afternoon, according to Vancouver police.

A woman sitting in the parked car eating lunch was injured in the crash, reported at 12:39 p.m. at 3803 H St.

The driver of the moving car, Nelda R. Lindell, was detained for a blood draw, said Sgt. Pat Johns. The 54-year-old Vancouver woman was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. Johns said that depending on the victim’s injuries, Lindell could face a charge of vehicular assault.

The name and condition of the woman in the parked car was not available Wednesday. She was taken to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center after the crash.

Corey Arruda was house-sitting for her sister. She said she was inside the house, in the living room with two friends, when they were startled by a loud boom.

“I thought it was the music at first,” she said. Then she saw cracks in the walls.

They went outside and saw that a car had slammed into the side of the house.

“It was so close,” Arruda said. “Luckily it’s brick.”

Authorities advised Arruda that no one should stay in the house until it undergoes a structural evaluation.

The Vancouver Police Department’s traffic detectives are investigating the crash.
