87, 174, 261, 348, 435, 522, 609 — on and on and on. That’s how many people die from guns in America every week. Day in and day out, every day, the average of 87 gun deaths occur.
Attached to this slaughter we have the multitude of family members and friends whose lives, too, are forever changed. Included in this number we’ve had, during the past four years, 43 mass shootings in 25 states — or nearly one per month.
We have an immense problem that’s not being addressed by politicians, even though 91 percent of Americans, both gun owners and non-owners, wanted stricter background checks. Did they listen to their constituents? What did our Congress do? Nothing. Thus living up to their moniker as a “Do Nothing Congress.”
