Letter: Shutdown exposed inadequacy

The Columbian
Published: October 20, 2013, 5:00pm

The government shutdown showed how little regard the leaders of this country have for its citizens. The National Park Service has come out as one of the worst offenders.

The National Parks Service not only shut down National monuments, parks and lands, but they put a large part of the nation and the city of Vancouver on lockdown. Why did they close down national parks that bring in money? Why did they close businesses on “parks” land? Why close the post exchange (PX)? Is there anyone in the park service with any business sense?

I think that the park service is due for a complete review and possible shutdown. Private businesses do not need the interference of another government agency and can do a better job of running government lands and monuments.
