The Milwaukee Brewers must love Southwest Washington.

Taylor Williams, a 2010 graduate from Camas High School, was selected by the Brewers in the fourth round of Major League Baseball’s First-Year Player Draft on Friday. The right-handed pitcher is a junior at Kent State University in Ohio.

This is the second year in a row the Brewers have made a high draft pick out of a Clark County product. Clint Coulter of Union High School is Milwaukee’s farm system.

Williams led Kent State’s staff with a 2.47 ERA, going 10-1 in 15 starts. He led the All Mid-American Conference with 110 strikeouts.

Williams began his college career at Washington State before returning to the Vancouver-Portland area to play at Mount Hood Community College last year. He then transferred to Kent State, where he shined along with Tyler Skulina.

Kent State had two pitchers drafted in the fourth round Friday. Skulina was the 108th overall selection, going to the Chicago Cubs.

Williams led Camas to the 2010 Class 3A state championship game. He threw eight innings in the semifinals that year, picking up a no decision in an 11-inning win over rival Columbia River. He was named the 3A GSHL’s MVP as well as The Columbian’s All-Region player of the year.
