Brush Prairie’s Gerrit Chambers won his opening match play round Monday at the Pacific Northwest Men’s Amateur Championship, defeating 20th-seed Ben Itterman of Carlsbad, Calif., 4 and 3.

Chambers, a Hockinson High grad, made five birdies over the 15 holes played.

He advances to the round of 32 on Tuesday against 13th-seed Carl Jonson of Bainbridge Island.

Two of the top four seeds failed to make it to the next round, including No. 64 Kyle Schrader of Olympia defeating No. 1 Joshua Munn of New Zealand 2 and 1.
