Firstenburg Community Center and Marshall Community Center’s pool will temporarily close for maintenance, but closures will be staggered so users won’t have to miss a workout.
And before the Marshall pool closes, it will go to the dogs.
Dogs that are current on shots, friendly to other dogs (and people) and willing to swim are welcome to the first annual Pooch Plunge, 1 to 4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 2.
The rest of the center, 1009 E. McLoughlin Blvd, will be closed in observance of Labor Day, so participants will have to enter through the back patio doors.
Lifeguards will be on duty, and admission is $5 per dog, according to a city news release.
Dogs can play with toys and be entered into contests, and after the session the pool will be drained and cleaned.
People will not be allowed to throw dogs into the pool.
The Marshall pool will reopen Sept. 15. During those two weeks, the rest of the center will be open normal hours with the exception of the showers in the men’s locker room, which will reopen the same day as the pool.
While the Marshall pool is closed, members can swim at Firstenburg Community Center, 700 N.E. 136th Ave,. which will have just reopened.
The entire Firstenburg facility will be closed from Aug. 26 to Labor Day.
Everything except the gymnasium will reopen at 5:30 a.m. Sept. 3. The gymnasium will reopen 8 a.m. on Sept. 14.
Meals on Wheels service at the center will also be closed from Aug. 26 to Labor Day, but meals will be delivered to homes.
During the closure, members can use Marshall Community Center.
