Clark County, through its contractor, tracks about 50 criminal offenders at any given time with electronic bracelets and anklets, according to Clark County District Court Probation.
That number excludes offenders monitored by the state Department of Corrections and the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
The county contracts with Sentinel Offender Services to track the activity of its offenders, whose participation is voluntary and in lieu of jail time. The California-based company has a 24/7 call center where operators call offenders as soon as there is an alert, said Alan Velasquez, Sentinel vice president of marketing.
Alerts spring from a variety of causes, from losing a GPS signal to leaving home for prohibited reasons. The county only receives reports of actual violations. There were about 175 violations in the last six-month period, Velasquez said.
