Police say that two Vancouver women have died from a single-vehicle crash that occurred over the weekend.

Julie E. Deming, 32, was the driver of a Ford F-150 that crashed into a tree and a light pole at Southeast McGillivray Boulevard and Southeast Olympia Drive in east Vancouver just before 2 a.m. Saturday. Deming was pronounced dead at the scene.

Brittney K. Deter, 21, was a passenger in the vehicle and was taken to a hospital but did not survive her injuries, according to Vancouver police. Deter graduated from Ellensburg High School and was a former Ellensburg Rodeo Princess.

Deming graduated from the University of Montana in 2004 and was a star athlete for the Lady Griz basketball team.

Detectives with the agency’s traffic investigation unit said that excessive speed and possibly alcohol were factors in the collision, though they are continuing the investigation.
