Camas-Washougal — Ben Porter, a Camas-Washougal firefighter/EMT, saved a life while vacationing with his family at Disneyland in Anaheim, Calif., on Aug. 18. Porter saw a convulsing man who was being lowered to the ground by a police officer. He checked the man’s vitals and found he was not breathing and had no pulse. Porter began CPR while the police officer called for assistance. A nurse arrived with an automatic defibrillator. An off-duty paramedic continued CPR while Porter delivered one shock from the defibrillator. The patient’s pulse returned, and he was transported to a local hospital. The patient recovered completely and was discharged from the hospital 24 hours later.
